a [folk] band of brothers

you have to love a band whose opening song starts with the lyrics:

"salina, i'm as nowhere as i can be,
could you add some somewhere to me,
ah kansas i'm kneeling, ah kansas please."

the avett brothers put on an amazing show sunday night. i've never seen a crowd more energized or excited to see a band.  a big "thank you" goes out to the oprheum theater for bringing them to wichita.

splendor in the [blue]grass

i absolutely love the spontaneity summer seems to bring. a friend told me at noon that "old crow medicine show" would be playing thursday night, i bought a ticket a few minutes later, and by 8 i was enjoying some great bluegrass. now, i wouldn't rank bluegrass at the top of my musical taste, but this was one of the best live shows i've ever seen. between the energy, the songs, the tempo, and the dancing, it almost had me wanting to learn how to play the banjo...

almost...

i think i'll just stick to guitar pickin'....

maybe i'll try the harmonica.
