[negative] memories

scrolling through facebook one night, i saw an old high school classmate post one of the photos i took in high school, saying "i found this old gem in my parents' basement1" it was of the softball team practicing one of their pre-game traditions of embracing in a large circle and crossing their legs.  it was actually one of my favorite shots during my years on the yearbook staff.  i dug through my high school bn and actually found the original negative.  Downloading an app, i was able to scan it onto my phone and sent it to my classmate.

i love photography. but honestly who doesn't. this day in age everyone is a photographer..  back in the day though, photos were just a little more rare. they weren't digital, they couldn't be "shared" endlessly. they had to be printed and held and cherished.  the fact my old classmate held on to this photo meant a lot. ironically, my first instinct was to digitize it, so it could be shared...

[holy] modernism

whenever i travel, like most architecture nerds, i check and see if there's any cool building around to look at.  finding myself in connecticut this summer i scoured blogs and articles looking for structures to visit.  now the glass house always pops up, but i've been there, done that, got the shirt.  i was looking for something new.  thankfully i found an article of sort of a forgotten modernist church by victor a. lundy. it was the first unitarian church in westport.  an architect and building i had not heard of.

before heading there, i called the church. it's not really a "touring" site but they said i could stroll the grounds and check it out.  walking around the incredible site i was taken aback.  it was a very interesting and inspiring structure. very flw apprentices looking, melding nature and organic forms with modernism.  i was so struck by it, i actually called the office and asked if i could come back on sunday to view the inside, to which they said yes.

i'm so glad this building popped up on my google search. like all well-designed spaces it was incredibly inspiring and added to the overall vacation.  if ever in westport connecticut, please stop by.

i also LOVE pizza

so finally getting to go to "mystic pizza" was an absolute thrill! and you know, for a tourist trap it was actually pretty good pizza.

[back to boston] to see an old friend

aaron is arguably one of my oldest friends.  by that i mean, our parents were friends...even our grandparents were friends...

so when he mentioned he and his wife would be in boston for a few days, i didn't hesitate to round up the fam and travel down.  although they were sans their three kids, it was the first time he got to meet my daughter.  the afternoon was spent catching up and making new memories.

and god willing one day my daughter will become friends with his and the generational friendship will continue!
